Folders get sorted by name always. When turning the option off folders can be sorted by date or size.

Treat digits in names as numbers. For example compare sortings:

Folders are always above.
|

|
Turn on showing top-files above.
|
||||
|
Turn off sorting. Sorting can be turned off, e.g. if you want to open a very large file list to avoid delays.
